An Open Letter to Broken_Envy
Dear F-List,
This post is wanky. This post is a rant directed at a person who is a liar and a thief. Please feel free to skip this post and any wank it might generate. Should you have a taste for wank, please grab a bag of popcorn while I outline the situation for you.
I haven't talked about my RPing in this journal a lot. I'll tell you about it now, enough to explain this situation. Daeva and Drake initially came up with the character of David. He would be Archer's son with a female Kimblee. From David, the universe began. Roy became Reine, Jean Havoc became female and Hawkeye became a male and they had kids. Alex, Paige and Ryan were their names. Dae and I began to RP David and Ryan. Our wacky high-jinks inspired others. Phishy and Yuriko did some genderswapping and came up with Clara and Damien and various others. Worlds collided and it was random insanity and it was fun. Complicated, but fun.
Into this mix stepped Broken_Envy and Invidia1988. They had also been inspired and created a genderswapped universe. There were kids there as well. Lots of them. It got a little weird. They wanted to invade our universe, but Dae warded them off. It was ok, just weird. Then it got weirder. Suddenly their characters were popping up with our characters' names. Their characters were using the image songs that the others had carefully picked out. Hell, their characters resemble the art that Daeva and Phishy drew! Basically, something a little more than inspiration was going on.
But you couldn't bring this up. Oh no, you couldn't mention this. You see, Broken's been working on a novel for ten years and those characters are hers! She has rock solid proof of this!! Or so she claims. And when more characters pop up with more of our characters' names? Her sister made them. And when yet more characters pop up? Well we need to STFU up because we're big stupid bitches and you can't copyright a name. That may be so, but we're tired of these childish shenanigans. We're just a little too old for this kind of bullshit, and here is where I finally put my foot down. Dear Broken Envy,
I'm very happy that you're so pleased with the names that you've taken from us. Truth be told, the ones that you have borrowed from us are better than any of the ones you've managed to come up with on your own! I had joked with someone the other day that I think there are only a few names you haven't taken from our collective RPs, but looking over this list you've posted for us, I can see that I was wrong. You've taken those too.
Had you used one or two names, everyone would have simply laughed at the coincidence and moved on with life. As you continue to point out, names don't really fall under any sort of copyright. Every person is free to name their characters what they will, but when every single name that we've conceived has mysteriously appeared in your cast of characters it's just too much for anyone with half a brain to take. I assure you, that each of us is in possession of a full brain.
I spend a lot of time sitting at my computer thinking up fitting names. I like easy names, names people can relate to, names people can pronounce. Names like Reine, Alex, Ryan, Paige, Richard, and James. All of these names have somehow popped up in your list of names in some form or other. How mysterious! Perhaps I was going back in time and taking them from you before you ever used them! How else can we explain the fact that I used them first? Or perhaps you just couldn't keep your hands to yourself. Curious.
Do you know why I chose Reine? Because Roy means king and Reine means queen. It is only fitting that a female version of Roy be a queen. Do you know why I chose Ryan? It's meant to evoke Roy's name. Why did I chose Alex and Paige? Good old down home names for Jean's children. Behind my names are reasons. Behind your names? Lies.
Let's look at names that you chose. Pyralis. Chiron. Claratrix. Zahro. Averice. Holliandria. Noog.
Now, perhaps it's just me, but I'm seeing a pattern here. What is this pattern? Perhaps it's the fact that your list of stolen names it the only list of “normal” names. Otherwise, your names are mash ups of drivel that you are attempting to pass off as creativity. Sorry. I've seen better made up names in bad sci-fi novels. And I could pronounce them too. Does, by chance, this Claratrix person wear a lot of leather? Her name has such a dominatrix feel. I can only imagine that the person who assigned her such a horrid name sees her future self walking around in a leather cat suit with a whip in her hand. I imagine a child given such a name would hate their parents for all eternity.
Getting back on topic, you are a liar. You are one of the worst liars that I have ever had the displeasure of encountering. The fact that you can stand there and vehemently deny what is so obvious is simply pathetic. The fact that none of your characters show up before ours (with one exception, that being Sean I believe), yet you claim them to be yours, is a load of bullshit. I've seen you harping over the fact that you have proof. Show me this proof. I would love to see it. Show me how you've had the name Daoji for ten years. I would like to be proven wrong. I would like to think that you could not be so pathetic as to think that we would believe that. I find it curious that you immediately went on the defensive about this. Why? You don't know if I do or don't read your journal. Notice, I never bothered to friend you back. Why are you so eager to step up and claim this as yours?
For the record, I spent a good half hour on a baby name website coming up with possible name combinations for my Xing twins. Would you like some of my rejected names as well? I know how much you like borrowed names. How about Fei Shun? It means something along the lines of Fan dancing in the air. I also considered Yan-Nin. It means swift as a swallow. They're nice names. Why don't you use them? After all, I can see that Dao Ji was indeed irresistible to you. It has such a magnetic power after all.
Speaking of magnetic power, let's talk about the magnetic power of music! Let's talk about how character songs that Daeva, Phish, Yuriko and myself spent so much time deciding on suddenly became the perfect songs to fit your characters. Do you not have music of your own? The only way you can come up with a character song is to steal one? How pathetic is that?
But it doesn't stop there does it? Oh no. It keeps going. The format for the Young Amestris community info posts... You couldn't even think of an original way to post that? The tables can be overlooked, but the exact same bolding and italicizing? The same format explaining what's different and who's who? Give me a break! Please!
The thing that really gets me here is how you talked about how much you admired Daeva. You spoke so earnestly of how you wished to build a circle of friends. How can you expect to do that when you can't even respect people enough not to take their character names. You can't even give people enough credit to think they wouldn't notice. You don't have enough courage to even fess up. And you want to be friends? You want to steal these things and have everybody pretend that it's all right? You think we won't notice? You think that you can take a list of over fifteen character names and nobody is going to notice?
Don't forget, you borrowed that universe idea. You borrowed that. Then you stole the names. Then you took the songs. Then you nabbed that silly format as well. And you think that people aren't going to notice this? You think that people are still going to want to be friends with you? You think that people will respect you?
Those little dreams of friendship and rp circles? That's never going to happen. You are too much a liar and too much a thief for that to ever happen. You're just going to continue this way until you isolate everyone. The rest of us? We're just going to go on, playing with our characters, having fun together, and you? Well, what difference does it make? You don't think enough of us to care that we just might give a shit if all our character's names are stolen. Well, we're just not gonna give a shit about you when everybody realizes what a low life con artist you are and leaves your sorry ass in the dirt. Have fun with that universe and those names and that music and everything else you've taken. Have fun while it lasts, because I really don't think you can carry this sham much farther.
On a parting note, your grammar is abhorrent. Your command of the English language is awful. Dae speaks better English and she's Italian! You want to be published? You've got a long way to go. That labyrinthine novel you're working on with it's dozens of stolen characters and unpronounceable names? Those words will never kiss a printing press and good riddance to that. Now please, stay away from me and my friends and our characters and have a nice life.

I am sooo sorry for all of that. I never really intended for the names to keep popping up like this..
and just to clear my name up. I do make my own up, and never steal them from anyone. I put too much effort into my own name creating to do that. I am so sorry this did get out of hand.. I was not really apart of the initial name taking.. and I'll continue the rest of this in a pm. what I have to post is rather long. That is if you want to hear me out.

The interesting thing about the internet is, it does have a tendency to bring out people's true colors. Tear away the face to face interaction, make it more anonymous, more sheltered and the gloves come off and people tend to show sides of themselves that they hide or deny exist in every day life. I think you've done an excellent job of showing us your true colors. After all, reading words are the only way to get to know the inside of the book. I've read yours and am just not impressed.

as fopr art thief? who have i stolefrom and i have praded it off as my own work? none that i know of, so sorry to burt that bubble. and im like this even in RL. i dont hide anything. i dont see the point it, and its stupid. i just take time to open up to others, thats all.
and it dont bother me if i have to work just a bit harder to get to know others, make its all the more worthwhile to me in the end.
