So, it's only been a whole week since Y-Con ended....perfect time for an overly verbose Con report! Better yet, I no longer own a camera, thus it will not even be peppered with interesting con pictures! Yippee! So let the report commence!

Friday
We took the train out to the end of the line and avoided having to take the shuttle to the hotel by having one of Deani and Summer's friends pick us up in a car. Some other friends of theirs had brought some of our junk up the previous night, so Summer and I ended up going to their room and chowing on pb&js before heading down to registration where we both volunteered for a few hours. Summer had to go off to the swap meet and I headed off to our room, which was not right and I ended up having to fix. I swung around the swap meet very briefly and picked up some nicely discounted doujinshi. Yay!

That's when I met up with the Y!Gallery crew doodling on their giant doodle paper. Somehow they convinced me to doodle too and I ended up drawing the most god-awful stick figure human Boota this side of anywhere. It came with a disclaimer, but really I think someone should just burn it off of the paper >_> We ended up retreating to a room for pizza. I started out on the far side of the room and slowly migrated across the bed to end up closer to people. I don't remember everyone I met, but most importantly was Kuma-Chan, Jojo, and Tomoe. ^_^

I had pizza with them and hung out before heading back to our room around 11ish? I really don't remember. I read some manga before Summer and Deani came back and then I crashed.

Saturday

On Saturday, I set up the sloppy joes that I'd made in the crock pot and went to line up for the Dealer's Room. The Dealer's Room disappointed me this year. It was not the size of the Dealer's Room, which I've heard people complaining about, it was the selection offered in the Dealer's Room. Last year they had general anime stores selling stuff and a j-pop music seller and a lot of little stalls (at least it seemed that way). This year, they didn't have that. There were mostly stalls from publishers (notably absent was useless BeBeautiful), Kinokuniya bookstore, vanity press e-publishers, a few small stalls with neat knickknacks, a dollfie stand and some loligoth clothing stands. There was just no variety. Aside from the free posters that were given out, there were really no yaoi posters available. There were only a few places selling cell phone charms (which is what I'm mostly likely to pick up) and other than Aestheticism, I think only one stall had a tiny little selection of doujinshi. I was just disappointed. It didn't stop me from endlessly wandering over the weekend and picking up a few things here and there, but I brought about $400 to spend in the dealer's room. It's the max amount that I'll spend in a con. It sounds a bit much but when doujinshi are like $8 a book, it can go fast >_> Anyway, I left the con with almost half of that money left! I'm still spending that money and I went shopping with it on Saturday. That's just sad. I shouldn't walk away from a con with money. That's where I get cool anime things!

I did buy stuff. I got a few volumes of manga and a few doujinshi. I ended up getting three cell phone charms and a y-con shirt, but I was still disappointed. I'd really really like a Youka Nitta or Kodaka Kazuma poster. There was nothing of the sort except in the raffle...which I will gt to later.

The artist alley was fun. I got some buttons and that was the only place that I saw Gurren Lagann represented! One artist was cosplaying as Simon, had some TTGL toys on her table and had prints. I bought one cute little Simon print and one with Simon and Nia. Yeah, I didn't even get a yaoi one! D= But it was pretty. I thought about commissioning her, but there's nothing I really really want or need. Dae just fills up my need for art.

Anyway, someone I'm distantly acquainted with totally brushed me off and I scuttled back to my room in a funk. I didn't want to read my new shiny manga, I didn't want to socialize, I didn't want to do anything. Summer and Deani came to the room and tried to figure out what the hell was wrong to me. After munching on some things, I sort of dusted off my pride and decided to go back downstairs to volunteer at Registration.

I worked there for a few hours. I ran into Pixelgoddess and Ginia. When don't I run into them though? Seriously, it's like there's a string tying us together and we are forever running into each other. It's amusing. I stalk them, they stalk me. Fun times! But this year, they had a Xerosky in tow! So I finally got to meet her and made a total dork of myself with inane conversation ^_^;; I promise I can hold better conversations than that...honest! Or maybe not. Either way, it was awesome to meet yet another person from my f-list!

Registration had a crazy rush right before we were supposed to close down. It's like at 4:20 in the afternoon, everyone suddenly realized "Oh shit! I have to register for Y-Con!" And we had a crazy rush. The stupid thing is that due to the size of this year's facilities, the main events like the infamous Bishounen Auction had to be ticketed and by that point in time, all of the tickets were handed out. I doubt any of those late arrivals go in. There was other stuff to do, but if they went just for that, they came at the wrong time. This stuff was all mentioned on the schedule and website. It's amazing how many people don't think about bringing their ID with a birthday for an 18+ con! Or the ones who lose their badge and whine about the unfairness of the lost badge policy.

Anyway, after we finally managed to shut down registration, I ended up hanging out with Deani for a bit as she waited to photograph some of the Bishounen for the Auction. I suppose you can call her the official Bishie Photographer. I ended up chatting with one of the girls I had run registration with. Then I went back to the room to discover that the crock pot hadn't just kept the sloppy joe meat warm, it'd burned it. It was not nearly as yummy to eat for dinner as it had been for lunch ;_; I'm sad about that. We ended up throwing the rest out because it was ewwie. I watched Toonami while eating. I heard the dub voice of Naruto for the first time ever.....OMG! I laughed SO HARD! It was so bad, I couldn't believe it was a serious attempt at voice acting. Some of the voices were fine, but Naruto's voice = ZOMG TOO FUNNY! One Piece came on after that and then....DBZ! X_x That's when Summer came in and I bugged her. We decided to go sit in the lobby and mingle since neither of us were going to the Bishie Auction or any of the other main events.

So we headed to the lobby and planted ourselves on a bench. I dumped out a bag of lollipops on a table to lure in unsuspecting suckers XD It worked a little. We ended up with some young fangirls sitting with us. We were trying to open their eyes to stuff more than just militant shipping and such. It was an ok conversation. Some girl sort of skirted around near us. You could tell that she was shy and nerdy...I mean, we're all nerdy at Y-Con obviously, but there's a lot of people there who have trouble connecting with others (like me, hence the candy lure). We need some sort of quiet place for them all to get comfortable and connect...even if she smelled like boiled cabbage. I think next year they need to hand out bars of soap in the registration goody bags. If it's Japanese soap, everyone will be all "Neato!" instead of "I'm so insulted."

Anyway, my plan of luring people in worked a bit, but not as much as I would have liked. The girls eventually had to leave and Summer went upstairs and I followed soon after. But I didn't get ready for bed like she did. I grabbed some chex mix and headed down to Kuma-Chan's room and imposed for like...five hours! Yeah, we ended up having all sorts of crazy conversations about weird things like talking penises (I brought that up) and penis afros (I don't remember who brought that up) and just all kinds of madness. It was super awesome, so super awesome I stayed for the afore mentioned five or so hours.... I really don't remember, I just know that I left around 4:30ish and my throat was raw and my body was shaking with exhaustion. I almost hit a wall heading back to my room and I was only just down the hall ^_^;; But it was so much fun to talk with people, so it was totally worth it, because I am so sucky with socialization sometimes. Anyway, obviously I crashed x_x

Sunday

I did not want to wake up on Sunday! x_x I was dead like a dead thing and yet somehow Summer and I got into a massive blanket tug of war and I ended up claiming the blanket....but I also ended up A) Squished in the crack between the wall and the bed and B) stuck under Summer as she squeezed the fortune outta me. We made a lot of noise, waking up our fourth room occupant who I barely saw because she'd come in so late and leave so early. After the squishimication from Summer, I resigned myself to staying awake. I showered and battled with the cheap ass hairdryer in the bathroom. I think it took at least 40 minutes to dry my hair -_- But I felt more human, so that was a plus.

I took another listless spin around the dealer's room before somehow ending up in the lobby where someone called my name. I met up with Kuma-Chan and JoJo again and glued myself to their side. I went to the Shibari panel with them, the only panel I attended all weekend because everything else looked so boring and not worth it. It was really interesting. I learned how to tie someone up. We got to practice on each other. Mwa ha ha! Tomoe met us there and after the panel let out we sort of drifted around listlessly together. I did a little running around getting stickers on my volunteer form. I turned it in and got pressies and I have free con admission next year! Yay!

I eventually managed to cattle prod my new friendy type peoples to the Trader Joes, where we picked up lunch. I've never been to Trader Joes. Can't say that I see what all the fuss is about. I got a nice sandwhich and Kuma-chan bought us mochi ice cream. We got drinks at the 7-11 and walked back to the hotel. I ran into Ginia, Pixelgoddess, and Xero crossing the street. They had to get Ginia a whole new suitcase to bring home her haul in!

Anyway, my new friendy type peoples and I ended up eating lunch out by the pool before they had to go off to their respective destinations. I think I went back to the Dealer's room to wander more. I packed my stuff and then I headed to the closing ceremonies. They showed some fun AMVs and some really lame ones to keep us entertained before the ceremonies started. Summer and Deani came to sit with me and ended up bailing before anything really happened ^_^;;

The "Master of Ceremonies" as it were, had no voice. Listening to someone rasp into a mic for a half hour is not my idea of a good time -_- Then we had the raffle. I had gotten free raffle tickets for volunteering (otherwise they would have been $1 a piece). I really really really really wanted one of the Youka Nitta posters they had up for winning. And I won something.... now...when you get your number called, you go up and pick a bishounen. They have a prize strip in a box. You get to either hug or spank them. Fun times...if you're into the whole bishounen thing, which I'm really not. I have no preference. I hammed it up to the crowd, asking who I should pick. I ended up picking a kitty boy. And I won a....face roller. I was like "WTF?!" It's some Japanese spikey face massager thingy. I could not have been more beside myself with WTF. So much for winning something I wanted, or even some little anime knick knacky thingy...no, I got a face roller. Thanks Y-Con! No really...thanks a lot. It was better than that Nestle Crunch Bar that you gave that other girl. I'm so glad my tickets were free. The raffle ran out of time and I'm thinking that not all the real prizes got handed out. Don't quote me on that, I kinda zoned things out for a while there. But yeah, that was my great big prize...oh yeah, I hugged my kitty boy, but that didn't make up for the crashing disappointment of lameocity.

My Ginia radar was working as I left the raffle. I ran into her in the hall and steered her wheelchair quite inelegantly into the elevator. I felt like a total heel bumping into the wall and such. Even still, she offered to buy me a drink. So we sat in the bar and I took some tylonal for the headache I had, but I couldn't even stay and chit chat with her because our ride wanted to go and I was getting snapped at on the phone. ;_; Sorry Ginia! I had to gulp down my drink and abandon her. But I found Pixelgoddess in the lobby and said goodbye to her and directed her to Ginia. Then we hit the road.

And thus my third Yaoi-Con ended. And I went home and died. x_x But I had a blast! I had fun meeting people and talking with old friends and new ones. I already can't wait for next year XD I'm definitely going to try and run a panel or two in light of this year's not so appealing offerings. I've got some ideas, we'll see what happens. Anyway, I'm pretty tired right now and I'm going to pass out. x_x
